Fountain in Town Square Park to be Torn Down

Earlier today (Wednesday) Mayor Ethan Berkowitz held a press conference in Town Square Park to announce that the city will tear down the large concrete fountain there as part of an effort to improve public safety in the crime-ridden public space.

The 1980s-era fountain “hasn’t worked for some time” and “it has become a barrier and a hiding spot,” Berkowitz said. They’re planning to take it down within the next few days. The hope is that drunks and vagrants will have fewer places to congregate.

The Mayor also plans to increase police patrols in the park. Let’s hope these efforts make Town Square a great space again for families and tourists!
