Fire destroys 3 buses at Wasilla school during gas theft
ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) – Fire destroyed three buses at a school in Wasilla and officials believe it began as a thief attempted to siphon gas.
Anchorage television station KTVA reports the buses burned early Saturday morning at Wasilla Lake Christian School.
Principal Cheralea Purcell says surveillance video captured a man carrying a gas can to one of the buses.
One bus caught fire and the man returned with a second gas can.
She says it’s senseless for damage of at least $30,000 over $30 worth of gas. She says it’s not the first time people have siphoned gas and officials have put locks on tanks.
Purcell says the buses are used to bring children to sporting activities.
