CIRCLE, Alaska (AP) – A 39-year-old Fairbanks man was arrested at a cabin near the end of the Steese Highway after a nearly six-hour standoff with Alaska State Troopers.

Christopher Turco was taken into custody Monday night on burglary and criminal mischief warrants.

Troopers investigated a break-in Saturday at a cabin in Central and concluded Turco was a suspect.

At about 1 p.m. Monday, Fairbanks troopers tried to serve an arrest warrant. Witnesses told officer that Turco was armed.

He and a 26-year-old woman barricaded themselves into a cabin at Mile 147 Steese Highway.

A trooper Special Emergency Response Team showed up shortly before 7 p.m. and Turco surrendered. The woman was released.
